Cory Capron
artist songwriter student poet

I was born at Martha Jefferson Hospital on July 10, 1985. I have lived in Charlottesville Virginia ever since. My main passions in life have been the manipulation of words and images. After being a difficult student, I finally taught myself how to read because my parents refused to read Peter Benchley's Jaws to me. This, along with many other materials that I was declared too young for, led to my fascination with the topic of censorship. Since the experimental and the banned often go hand in hand, I found at a very young age I had taken a great deal of interest in many figures of the avant-garde. As a result I am now very interested in a career in the arts. I love a vast body of film, from the silent works of the 20s to Finding Nemo.

As a writer I've always had trouble with my attention span, or lack thereof. The solution to this came to me at twelve when I took an interest in song writing. The generally short length of a song and structure allowed me to become more comfortable with writing, and I found that I became very prolific while maintaining an attention to quality. With heroes like Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, along with the benefit of growing up in a thriving local music scene, I became very ambitious and aspired to be nothing short of the best writer I could.

From 98-04 I attended The Living Education Center For The Ecology and the Arts (LEC) which was, and remains, one of the best times of my life. My interests in the arts was encouraged and I met many people who influence me to this day. The first two bands that I ever performed in were formed at LEC. It also exposed me to various venues. The most notable of were No Shame Theater and Light House.

While Light House allowed me to explore nearly all aspects film making hands on, it would be No Shame that would have the biggest impact on me. The anything legal and under 5 minutes goes formula resulted in my first attempts at poetry and experimental writing. Many of the works I am still working on and expanding to this day. No Shame would also be key in helping me fight stage fright and was the primary venue of my former band Side Effects.

I am currently enrolled at Piedmont Virginia Community Collage. I hope to major in English and become a teacher or perhaps even a professor. I am still writing and hope to one day publish my poems, stories and lyrics. I have written roughly 300 songs and hope to form another band in the future.
